Welcome!

An appropriately Lichtenbergian seven weeks after the domain name of lichtenbergian.org went live, we finally have our official website open for business.

All of you should have received an email with your username and password. If not, email me.

13 Thoughts on “Welcome!

  1. I have a much cooler layout/theme I want to use, but it’s displaying the quotes in white and not fading them to black. I emailed the Quote Rotator guy about it, but he has a “big test” tomorrow and has to study.

So we’ll live with this layout for a while.

This deserves a thick, musky shout of “Yi,yi!”

A cyber master just needs to let me know the most economical way to go about collecting aphorisms-so-far from our various outlets, and I’ll set about it. Is it just a matter of logging in and going to “Aphorisms” and then cutting and pasting from another opened window, or is there some more elegant and esoteric way to go about it?

We should also import and archive our previous relevant postings.

A bit of beneficent business. Our Society’s lastest modest act of giving involves helping support the program booklet for Newnan High School Lacrosse. “Lichtenbergians Support Newnan Lacrosse.” And our Seal, of course.

It was a sad instance of lack of faith that prompted me to withhold our website address from the ad copy. Ah, well. But it gives it an air of Bavarian-Masonic conspiratorial mystery. Makes the curious work for more knowledge.

Lichtenbergians support Newnan Lacrosses. I love it!

Not significant enough for a post of its own, but important enough for me to stop cleaning the kitchen long enough to dash off: One of the things I missed with my dying computer was being able to listen to the stream and the archive at http://www.wrek.org. So I’m happily back listening to their jazz show. M-F. 9ish to Noon. It’s the only jazz show I know of that plays EVERYTHING from Dixieland to Chicago to Big Band to Cool to Hard Bop to the serious Avant-Garde (including everything from Ayler to AEC to Ware to Vandermark to the European Free Improv folks). Great Stuff! Willfully ignores the whole Marsalis-Crouch hegemonic authenticity stamping thing. (Oh, there’s this debate….not worth going into.)

  6. re: Aphorisms
Yes, just go elsewhere and copy and paste into the Aphorisms window.

  7. As for importing former discussions… I’ll look into it, but I’m pretty sure it’s going to be easier to continue them here with a link to the previous discussion.

Let’s see if this really works. I love seeing it here, but like everyone else, can’t log in. So please open the door or at least leave the window unlocked.

    marc,

As a Miles Davis fan, I’m proud to say that any Marsalis whose first name begins with Wynton does not exist. Therefore, I couldn’t possibly understand the idea of authenticity stamping. We should go see something live sometime. I’ll confess I struggle a bit on the Bitches Brew end of the spectrum. I suspect you don’t so much. (highjacking of an already diverse post/response accomplished)

Turff, There’s local drummer, Chris…….something, who used to play with an outfit regularly at Churchill Downs (Downs or Arms….I think Downs) in Atlanta. Let me find out if that’s still happening. I’ve never checked out the place.

I’m sorry I didn’t mention it before, but the Lacrosse thing was absolutely inspired. I consider the gauntlet to have been thrown. I wonder if the up-tight little private school my kids attend would freak at such an ad in a program. hmmmm.

  12. I love the idea of ads appearing in programs everywhere. And I like the idea of not including the website. Make them Google us.

  13. Which, by the way, if you do (Google us, that is), you’ll find that we are nine of the first 10 items. What a hoot!
